Who we are
Bhumi Seva is a free, open-source community platform that connects environmental project creators with volunteers and resource providers across India. We do not run ads, sell data, or charge fees of any kind.
What data we collect
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We store these to create your Bhumi Seva profile.
When you fill in your profile, create a project, offer a resource, or submit a volunteer request, we store the information you provide - such as your city, state, organisation name, and contact preferences.
We do not collect payment information, phone numbers (unless you choose to add one to your public profile), or any information from users who are not signed in.
How we use your data
- To display your name and avatar on projects and resources you create.
- To send transactional emails - project approval, volunteer approval, and similar notifications. We do not send marketing emails.
- To enable contact between project leads and approved volunteers, when both parties have opted in to sharing contact details.
- To prevent abuse - Google sign-in means every account is tied to a real identity, which protects the community from scam projects.
What is public vs private
Your name and avatar are shown on projects and resources you create.
Your email address is never shown publicly. It is only used to send you notifications.
Your phone, Instagram, YouTube, and other contact fields are only shown to other users if you explicitly turn on “Share contact info” in your profile settings.
Third-party services
- Google OAuth - used for sign-in only. Google's privacy policy applies to the sign-in flow.
- Supabase - our database and authentication provider. Data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
- Resend - used to send transactional emails. Your email address is shared with Resend solely for delivery purposes.
- OpenStreetMap / Leaflet - used to render maps. No personal data is sent to OpenStreetMap.
Your rights
You can update or delete your profile information at any time from your profile page.
To delete your account and all associated data, open a GitHub issue or contact the project maintainers. We will delete your account within 7 days.
Cookies
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you have Google Analytics enabled in your browser, aggregated (anonymous) page-view data may be collected.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the platform after a change constitutes acceptance.
